TIFR Mumbai is the Centre for Applicable Mathematics of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research is a sovereign Institute under the umbrella of the Department of Atomic Energy of the Government of India. It does fundamental research in physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics and computer science. TIFR has a postgraduate program contributing to a PhD in all the prime areas of study. Admission to the postgraduate program is got after qualifying a written test followed by interviews. TIFR has a running particle accelerator and a Pelletron able of stimulating particles to moderate energies for studying heavy ion atomic interactions and a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Facility to study complex particles housed in campus in addition to various other services.
