Surat Municipal Corporation is a local liberty, which was created under the law of Bombay Provincial Municipal, 1949. Surat Municipal Corporation sees its role as facilitator and provider of major services as detailed below to allow for a better quality of life. Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has settled to dig Borges to solve the water scarcity problem. The civic body has fixed a target of digging 100 borewells each year and the scheme will continue for the next five years. A special grant of Rs5 crore has been allowed by the state authorities for the purpose.
