SIDBI was launched on April 2, 1990. The Charter launching it, The Small Industries Development Bank of India Act, 1989 imagined SIDBI to be “the principal financial institution for the advancement, financing and growth of industry in the small scale sector and to co-ordinate the functions of the institutions enlisted in the advancement and financing or formulating manufacture in the small scale sector and for matters associated therewith or incidental thereto.
