Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC) was founded on July 25, 1969 by the Companies Act 1956. REC is a named Government of India Public sphere Enterprise. Its prime aim is to finance and encourage rural development plans throughout the nation. It supplies financial help to State Electricity Boards, State Government Departments and Rural Electric Cooperatives for rural electrification projects as are sponsored by them.
REC renders loan assist to SEBs/State Power Utilities for investments in rural electrification schemes by its Corporate Office settled at New Delhi and seventeen area wings (Project Offices), which are situated in most of the States.
