POWERGRID has designed to create a effective and vibrant National Grid in the country in a arranged manner to ensure goodness utilization of rendering resources, conservation of eco-sensitive right of way and for having tractability to accommodate uncertainty of generation plans. Towards this, a horizon transmission plan has been developed for altering the regional grids and to support the generation capacity increase program of about 78,000 MW during XI Plan. A framework for inter-regional interconnection has been evolved to launch National Grid in a phased manner. In line with the horizon plan, several inter-regional transmission schemes have been commissioned/ undertaken for execution/ planned by POWERGRID.
