Introduction
The Directorate of National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme is the national nodal agency for prevention and control of major vector borne diseases of public health importance, namely, Malaria, Filarial, Kala-azar, Japanese capacities and Dengue/ Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever . The State governments are responsible for planning, implementation, supervision and monitoring of the programme. The Government of India launched the National Malaria Control Programme in 1953. DDT spraying ensued in a sharp decline in malaria in all areas under spray.
