The infrastructure of the National Law School of India University, Bangalore was found on August 29, 1987, under the National Law School of India Act (Karnataka Act 22 of 1986). Since its origination, NLSIU has been engaged as one of the UGC accredited universities, and is also a paneled member of the AIU. Currently, the institute is expected upon as one of the top notch institutions for Law education in India.

NLSIU academic programs contains of a number of subjects that are not to be found in other institutions of its kind like, viz, International Commercial Transactions, Law, Poverty & Development. In the final year the students acquire to particular in whichever areas they like and to do conference courses in them. The Chief Justice of India, as Visitor of the NLSIU and the Chairman of the Bar Council of India as Chairman of the General Council of the School render a stature and prestige to the School unique in the history of legal education in the nation.
