The Marine Engineering and Research Institute (MERI), officially known as the Directorate of Marine Engineering Training (DMET), is India’s national institute for the training of Marine Engineers. It is India’s most former and best known marine engineering college. It provides 1-year Pre sea training in Marine Engineering course the examinee who have a degree in B.E/B.Tech (Mechanical or Naval Architecture) from AICTE sanctioned college or the IIT with minimum 50% in final year and 50% marks in English in 10th or 12th may apply for this course. Selection will be based on Marine Engineering courses in India are generally done by several entrance examinations led between the months of April and June.

Marine engineers do the job of engineering the construction and maintenance of ships and other sailing vessels. Also they are responsible for the monitoring of engine crews that look after smooth functioning and improving efficiencies of steam engines, turbines, motors, propulsion engines, plants etc.
