ITDC came into being in October 1966 and has been the premier mover in the progressive growth, promotion and elaboration of tourism in the nation. The Delhi government is also working towards reducing the pollution level in the city by switching to CNG (compressed natural gas) powered vehicles; particularly the much used public transportation. Buses, auto rickshaws and yellow-top taxis, all gaily created with a green line indicate their newly assumed CNG status. Currently, ITDC has a network of 8 Ashok Group of Hotels, six Joint Venture Hotels, 2 Restaurants 12 Transport Units, one Tourist Service Station, 37 Duty Free Shops at International as well as Domestic Customs Airports, one Tax Free outlet and 2 Sound & Light Shows.
