The Geological Survey of India (GSI) founded in March 1851, is a prime national survey and is an associate office under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India.
GSI is hired in the generation of basic Geoscience data, research, facility and dissemination of knowledge for sustainable growth of material resources, social and environmental protection. Throughout, three thousand earth scientists with expertness in geology, geophysics (both exploration and instrumentation), chemistry and mineral exploration promote to over 300 multi-disciplinary and multi-thematic plans. The key-strength of GSI, lies in mapping (geological, geochemical and geophysical), mineral exploration, Geotechnical and engineering geology and analytical chemistry assisted by ground survey, airborne survey and exploration, marine survey, field studies and laboratory analyses.
