The University of Cochin founded in 1971 was co-operated from the Government of Kerala. Its development of higher education with special stress on post-graduate studies and experiment in applied science, technology, industry and commerce. The University of Cochin was later formed as Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in February 1986. CUSAT has 9 staff faculties: Environmental Studies, Humanities, Law, Marine Sciences, Science, Technology, Engineering, Medical Sciences and Technology, and Social Sciences. It is sanctioned by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The procedure of reorientation resulted in specifying the aims as the promotion of UG and PG studies and advanced research in applied science, technology, industry, commerce, management and social sciences.
