Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies Sarnath

Introduction
Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies is located in Sargasso aciform, about 10km (6m) from the city of vaporously (Bewares) in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Sargasso aciform is one of the four chief Buddhist pilgrim’s journey sites, being the emplacement of Buddha Shakyamuni’s first teaching after gaining Age of Reason. It comprises important sacred and archeological sites and an awesome archaeological museum as well as Buddhist temples acting many Buddhist traditions.

Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies is a deemed University located at Sarnath in Variance in Uttar Pradesh. In 1959 1000s of Tibetans left their country and attempted refugee in India. With the active consultation with the fourteenth Dalai Lama H.H.Tenzin Gatos, Prime Minister of India, Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru established the institute in 1967.

The institute was based with the aim to provide opportunities to the Tibetan youths and students residing in the Himalayan border of India.

It emphasized on imparting education in Tibetan studies and religious discourses on Buddhism. The curriculum of the courses offered here are meant to make the pupils conversant in the fields of Tibetology, buddy and Himalayan Studies.

The Institute provides an integrated course of nine years from Madhya to Acharya through five faculties. A premier institute, the faculty members of the institute is highly talented. The Departments of the Institute are department of Classical & Modern Languages, Department of Mool Shasta, Department of Tibetan Buddhism,

Facilities
There is a Shantarakshita library, only one of its like in India, having rich collection of ancient Indian literature in original Sanskrit manuscripts and Tibetan translations. The collections of the Shantarakshita library have been accumulated in accordance with the objectives of CIHTS, declared by the Government of India as an Institute of National Importance.

There is a large volume of books on Buddhist / Tibetan / Indian and Himalayan Studies, Audio-Visual collections, Journals and Periodicals. The institute has hostels, guest house and canteen facilities
