BARC Mumbai

BARC was commenced in 1954, as the Atomic Energy organization, Trombay (AEET), and became India’s primary nuclear research centre, taking over charge of most nuclear scientists that were at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. After Homi J. Bhabha’s death in 1966, the centre was nominated as the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.

The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) is India’s chief nuclear research facility founded in Mumbai. BARC has a number of nuclear reactors, all of which are expended for India’s nuclear power and research programme.

Atomic Energy has got a certain and decisive role to perform in the Indian Power Generation and supply sector. Being a formulating country, a major share of India’s overall electricity requirements has to be from non conventional origins as the established sources has got limitations to meet the galloping needs.

India has accomplished self-sufficiency in the Nuclear Science and Technology thanks to the pioneering efforts initiated by Dr. Homi Bhabha who saw the Indian Nuclear Program and since then meticulously carried on by the devoted scientists and engineers of DAE family.
