Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) was set up in 1948 in the contiguous post-world war period. s a premier medical institute of the country acknowledged as a centre of excellence for education and research. The college provides training to under-graduate and post-graduate medical and nursing students with assured career prospects in the defense services. On the passports of the BC Roy commission, remainders of the Indian Army Medical Corps units were consolidated into one unit to create the Armed Forces Medical College.

Eligibility:
Candidate must pass Higher Secondary (10+ 2 level) or equivalent examination from a recognized Board with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology with 60% aggregate marks in three science subjects taken together and not less than 50% marks in English and 50% marks in each of the science subjects.

Age Limit:
Age For 10+2 pass candidates: Not less than 17 years but below 22 years as on December 31, 2004, that is, candidates born not earlier than January 1, 1983 and not later than December 31, 1987.
